Brockport Microbiology is an independent, full-service microbiology consulting service, providing a broad range of expert services. Consulting services include but are not limited to method development and validation, wastewater treatment, industrial contamination, bioremediation, indoor air quality, technical training, and technology assessment.
Our diversified customer base includes Fortune 500 companies, government agencies, environmental engineering and consulting firms, industrial manufacturers and litigation attorneys. Brockport Microbiology has consulted on major projects with many companies including Eastman Kodak Company, Delphi Energy and Engine Management Systems, McKittrick Waste Treatment Site (California) and Donology, Inc. (Cincinnati). One of our major accounts in the wastewater treatment industry is FBC Technologies, Inc. Dr. Sara E. Silverstone |
Brockport Microbiology was founded in 1999. Dr. Sara E. Silverstone started the company after a ten year career as a university professor, directing research in environmental microbiology and teaching courses in bacteriology, genetics, molecular biology, microbial ecology and cell biology. Her career included research in plant pathology, bioremediation and advanced genetics. Dr. Silverstone wanted to provide a service which would enable her to use her talents and experience to meet the commercial need for industrial and environmental microbial problem-solving and subject area expertise. All of her diverse projects have involved research, writing and interpretation of results geared towards all audiences, from the Ph.D. level scientist to the business professional with little or no scientific background. Dr. Silverstone's teaching and writing experience have enabled her to develop an exceptional ability to explain scientific principles and information to the non-scientist.
Dr. Silverstone attended the State University of New York college at Cortland and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy in 1983. She went on to earn her Ph.D. in Microbiology at the University of California at Davis, where she graduated in 1989. For details of Dr. Silverstone's career, please go to her faculty webpage.
In her career, Dr. Silverstone has been awarded numerous grants for her work, which include a National Science Foundation grant to build Cal State Bakersfield's first molecular biology laboratory and a grant from the Environmental Protection Agency for the development of molecular probes for detecting bacteria used in anaerobic soil and groundwater bioremediation.
Dr. Silverstone has published in scientific journals such as Applied and Environmental Microbiology, General Dentistry, and Canadian Journal of Microbiology. She is a sought-after speaker in the industries she serves, having presented at conferences and symposia for the American Society for Microbiology, New York Water Environment Association, and Alabama Water Environment Association. She also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Science at SUNY Brockport.
Dr. Silverstone's professional affiliations include the American Society for Microbiology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, American Industrial Hygiene Association, Water Environment Federation, and the Air, Waste and Management Association. |
